Application

Glutaraldehyde is an important organic chemical fine chemicals and intermediates, as a high efficiency, broad-spectrum fungicide, widely used in oil fields, paper making, metal processing and other fields; Glutaraldehyde is also used in leather industry as a tanning agent. In recent years, the application of glutaraldehyde is mainly concentrated in medicine, health and other fields, as a disinfectant, it is also widely used in medical engineering, biochemistry, immunochemistry, microbial industry, food and environmental protection and other aspects. Glutaraldehyde is the third generation of chemical sterilization agent, it has a high killing effect on reproductive bacteria, viruses, mycobacteria, pathogenic mold and bacterial bud, it is recommended by the World Health Organization as hepatitis B virus disinfectant.

Effects on human health

The average person is not exposed to enough to cause harm. The health effects depend on the amount of glutaraldehyde exposed.

Skin and eye contact with glutaraldehyde can cause irritation. Inhalation of glutaraldehyde can irritate the nose. If glutaraldehyde enters the mouth, the mouth, esophagus, and stomach can be irritated.

Glutaraldehyde irritates the tissue it touches, with long-term effects similar to short-term ones. The skin may become more sensitive to glutaraldehyde if it is exposed repeatedly.

The effects of glutaraldehyde in children are expected to be the same as in adults. It is not clear whether children are more sensitive to glutaraldehyde than adults.

Few human and animal studies have shown that glutaraldehyde causes birth defects.
