Semaglutide 2mg 5mg 10mg
Semaglutide---The weight loss drug semaglutide has opened a new era of weight management for patients with type 2 diabetes, marking a change in the treatment model for obesity. The weight loss effect Chemicalbook is close to that of bariatric surgery. In addition to weight loss, the patient's overall health condition improved, and physical function scores, blood pressure, and blood sugar were significantly improved.
Semaglutide
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist that can stimulate pancreatic β cells to secrete insulin, thereby increasing glucose metabolism, and inhibit pancreatic α cells to secrete glucagon, thereby lowering fasting and postprandial blood sugar. In addition, it can also reduce food intake by reducing appetite and slowing down gastric digestion, ultimately reducing body fat and facilitating weight loss.
Is semaglutide safe for weight loss?
This study was a retrospective chart review of 40 overweight or obese individuals (median age 47 years, weight 111.7 kg, BMI 39.7 kg/m²) who were treated with semaglutide for weight management. The results showed that after three months of semaglutide, the median weight loss was 7.4 kg (equivalent to 6.6% of baseline weight). Specifically, 70% of patients (28 patients) lost more than 5% (5.6 kg) and 20% of patients (8 patients) lost more than 10% (11.2 kg). Among the 25 patients with six-month follow-up data, 88%, 68% and 32% of patients lost more than 5%, 10% and 15% of their weight, respectively (i.e., 5.6 kg, 11.2 kg and 16.8 kg).
In terms of maintenance dose, 16 patients used 1 mg of semaglutide and 9 patients used 2 mg, and both groups achieved similar weight loss, 13.6% (14.9 kg) and 12.8% (14 kg), respectively. It is worth noting that the response rate in men was relatively low, with 7 of 12 men responding (58.4%) and 24 of 28 women responding (85.8%) (P value = 0.057). In addition, among the 9 patients with a history of mental illness, 5 responded (55.6%).
Regarding safety, 26 of 40 patients (65%) experienced adverse events, but most were mild to moderate and short-lived, with only one case (2.5%) leading to discontinuation of the drug.
In summary, this retrospective study showed that semaglutide showed significant effectiveness in weight loss and had a good safety profile even at doses below the approved maintenance dose. Therefore, semaglutide is expected to greatly change the status quo of obesity treatment.
How much weight can I lose in a month on semaglutide?
When starting semaglutide, it is recommended to take 3 mg once a day for 30 days. The 3 mg semaglutide dose is used to start therapy and is ineffective for blood sugar control. After taking the 3 mg dose for 30 days, the dose is increased to 7 mg each time (you can also take two 3 mg tablets, because semaglutide comes in a box of 100 tablets, sometimes you can't use up the medicine and don't waste it), once a day. If additional blood sugar control is needed, after taking the 7 mg dose for at least 30 days, the dose can be increased to 14 mg each time, once a day.
It is not recommended to take two 7 mg tablets of semaglutide to achieve a 14 mg dose. However, for patients who are losing weight, if they are not overweight, 7 mg is enough
