Anadrol (often referred to as "A50" or "A-bombs" by athletes) was originally developed as a compound to help people with anemia, and has been used very successfully to help people with many other conditions. Moreover, it is an effective drug for promoting weight gain, increasing appetite, enhancing physical strength and increasing red blood cell count.

Like most anabolic/androgenic steroids (AAS), it has its downsides. Anadrol suppresses the hormones your body naturally produces (the reputation of liver toxicity among all steroids like testosterone). Paradoxically, while one of the benefits touted by its original manufacturer (Syntex) is that it can stimulate weight gain by increasing your appetite, consuming too much may actually suppress your appetite!

Effects on Body

Anadrol, a DHT-derived compound, is a 17-alpha-alkylated steroid, which means it has been altered at the 17th carbon position to survive oral administration. Most oral steroids are 17aa, which helps them pass through your liver in a useful form.

Side Effects

This Anadrol change makes it possible to survive its first pass through your liver, which also makes it very taxing on your liver. The fact that it causes some side effects has never been debated.

How well does this drug work?

It should first be mentioned that this study was conducted on people with AIDS-related wasting who actually gained weight (8+kg), while the control group lost weight and had increased mortality. In any case, weight gain in this study peaked at 19-20 weeks, though, so the past 10 weeks aren't very productive in this regard. So with regards to aspects of Anadrol, and the fact that this study went on for so long (30 weeks), it's clear that they can be controlled and the drug is safe to use. People are often told to limit A50 intake to 4 weeks or less, not underestimating that you can easily run your A50 for 6 weeks or more.
